When two adventurous souls fall in love, it’s only fitting that their wedding takes place somewhere extraordinary. For Caroline and Daniel, that meant saying their vows inside a glittering blue glacier during their ice cave wedding in Iceland. What began as a quiet connection in Oxford during lockdown turned into an epic celebration of love, courage, and togetherness against one of the world’s most dramatic backdrops.

Their love story started simply—two Master’s students navigating pandemic life, meeting through Tinder because “that was the only way to do it at the time.” For months, their dates were walks through Port Meadow Park, always distanced and proper. “Caroline wouldn’t even let us hold hands at first! It was all very Victorian,” Daniel said. But through those walks, they built something steady and real, which later inspired a wedding that was intimate, personal, and rooted in authenticity.

What We Love About This Ice Cave Wedding

  • An unforgettable ice cave ceremony surrounded by glaciers
  • A private vow exchange followed by a black sand beach celebration in Vik
  • Caroline climbing an ice wall (in her wedding dress!) with crampons and an ice pick
  • Glacial-inspired details like translucent vases that mimicked ice
  • A design that perfectly reflected their adventurous, unconventional personalities

How the Idea of an Exotic Elopement Became Reality

After a winter engagement at Blenheim Palace—on the same spot where Winston Churchill proposed to his wife—Caroline and Daniel found themselves drawn to the idea of a small winter wedding abroad. “We fell in love with the idea of a small, exotic location,” they said. “Once we saw photos of Icelandic weddings online, we knew we had to make it happen before all the best ice caves melted away.”

They planned most of their big day themselves, leaning on the advice of local professionals familiar with Iceland’s unpredictable terrain. The result was a day that combined spontaneity with serenity. Their vow exchange took place deep inside a cave carved by nature, with blue ice walls surrounding them like crystal cathedrals.

A Ceremony as Adventurous as Their Love Story

Their private ring exchange and vow ceremony inside the cave felt surreal. Caroline even strapped on crampons and picked up an ice axe to climb an ice wall after the ceremony, still in her wedding dress. “It was quite a sight to see,” Daniel recalled. The moment captured everything about who they are: daring, lighthearted, and willing to go beyond the ordinary for each other.

Afterward, they celebrated with a more public ceremony on the black sand beach of Vik. The landscape’s striking contrast of dark sand and icy blue tones was a sight to remember.

Turning Their Vision into a Personal Experience

From the start, Caroline and Daniel wanted their wedding to be a reflection of their personalities—simple, wild, and meaningful. “It was a very small and cozy affair,” they shared. “That’s exactly who we are: adventurous and unconventional.” Even their decor followed the theme, with flower vases resembling glacial ice and muted winter tones that echoed the landscape around them. Every decision, from the location to the color palette, came back to what mattered most: crafting a day that felt like them.

Advice for Couples Dreaming of Their Own Ice Cave Wedding

For couples thinking about an ice cave wedding, Caroline and Daniel’s biggest piece of advice is to stay flexible. “The weather can change in an instant, and that’s part of the beauty of it. Lean into the unpredictability and focus on the experience.”

They also recommend working with local experts familiar with Iceland’s conditions. “They know the safest spots and how to navigate the ice. Having that local insight made everything so much smoother.”

The elopements of today look nothing like those of the past. Once considered a quick, courthouse fix, elopements have evolved into intimate, meaningful journeys—often taking couples across the globe to unforgettable settings. Now more than ever, weddings are about the couple and the love they share. And the reality is, for many couples, that doesn’t equate to bouquets and banquet halls.

Enter the destination elopement. If a big wedding feels overwhelming, but the idea of saying “I do” under the Eiffel Tower or atop a mountain lights you up, this might be the path for you. To get the inside scoop, we spoke with one of today’s premier elopement photographers, Tyler Rye, whose work has taken him everywhere from Iceland’s glaciers to Jordan’s deserts. He shared with us what makes these experiences so powerful—and why more couples than ever are trading tradition for adventure.

So put down the seating chart spreadsheet, grab your suitcase, and let’s talk about eloping authentically.

Is an Adventurous Destination Elopement Right For You?

It’s important to know that elopements aren’t for everyone. As Tyler explains, “They’re for couples who care more about the experience and personal connection with each other than the big production. They’re the ones who’d rather be hiking a trail or standing in the middle of nowhere than worrying about whether the napkins match the flowers.”

In other words, if the process of wedding planning leaves you feeling more anxious than excited, it might be time to reimagine what your wedding could be. Tyler advises couples to focus on the feeling they want to remember: “Think about what you want the day to feel like. If you want something relaxed, memorable, and maybe a little unpredictable, eloping might be the better call.”

Fanal Forest in Madeira, Portugal

Dolomites, Northern Italy

Namibia

Madeira, Portugal

Budget also plays a role. Traditional weddings in the U.S. average around $33,000 (with venues alone often topping $12,000). By comparison, most elopements cost between $5,000–$15,000 depending on location and length. Not only does this give couples more freedom, but it allows them to prioritize experiences over expenses.

And what does an actual elopement day look like? “On the day, expect a mix of exploring, hanging out, and finding those moments worth capturing. There’s no formula.” If that idea excites you, then a destination elopement may be exactly what you’re looking for.

How To Choose the Perfect Destination Elopement Location

Destination elopements are all about place. And the options are as varied as the couples themselves. According to Tyler, “You pick a spot or at least a general idea of the kind of place you want. Then we figure out the logistics, how to get there, what permits you need, etc.”

Sometimes couples come to Tyler with a clear vision; other times, it’s as simple as saying, “We like mountains” or “We want somewhere warm.” From there, Tyler shares past client galleries, Google pins, and ideas until the right location comes into focus.

Iceland’s Katla Ice Cave

Iceland’s Kvernufoss Waterfall

Iceland’s Katla Glacier

Iceland’s Stone Bridge

So where’s the most popular elopement destination Tyler hears from couples? Without hesitation, Tyler says Iceland. With its glaciers, volcanoes, waterfalls, and black-sand beaches, Iceland offers the kind of variety you can’t find anywhere else. Tyler himself has made nearly 30 trips there—and says it never gets old.

Once a couple decides on a general area, Tyler builds out the experience. “Once I’m booked and I have a general idea of where a couple wants to elope, I can get to work. I map out a timeline based on the locations they like, and along the way, I also send over recommendations on places to stay, travel tips, and vendor recommendations.”

Unforgettable Places to Plan a Destination Elopement

Destination elopements often take couples far off the beaten path—sometimes literally. When asked about the most remote destination he’s photographed a couple so far, Tyler says Tasmania. Just how difficult was it to get there? “First you have to make it to Australia, then another two-hour flight to Tasmania. From there we hopped on another flight, this time a small six-passenger plane, and flew deep into the bush. Then we took a boat down the river to our final destination.” The end result was a destination elopement that was just as much an adventure as it was a wedding.

Canyon Point, Utah

Canyon Point, Utah

But not all destination elopements have to include extensive travel. There are nearby destinations that also offer stunning views and memorable experiences. For one, Southern Utah and the land beyond other U.S. National Parks. “The landscapes there are unreal, but everyone just flocks to the big names like Zion. There are so many places that people miss by being determined to get the shot that inspired them from social media.”

Tyler’s most memorable adventure elopement experience so far? That title goes to Jordan. “The treasury at Petra is a massive stone temple carved into the heart of a giant slot canyon. The only option my clients had was to shoot after midnight following a lantern ceremony. It was pitch black except for the lanterns. With the place empty and dark, it felt like stepping back a couple thousand years. The following day we went to the Wadi Rum Desert to meet up with locals for an overnight camping experience. It’s an experience I will never forget.”

As for his dream location? “Oh, Antarctica! It is at the top of my list! Not only is it one of the purest places left on earth, but if I shoot there, I can finally say I’ve photographed on every continent.” So if you are interested in vowing forever in Antarctica, you know who to call.

Final Advice for Couples Considering a Destination Elopement

At its heart, planning a destination elopement is about freedom—freedom from rigid expectations, from overwhelming to-do lists, and from traditions that don’t resonate. It’s about designing a day that reflects who you are as a couple, whether that means exchanging vows on a glacier, in an old town center, or with just a handful of loved ones by your side.

The Faroe Islands

Madeira, Portugal

The Faroe Islands

As Tyler reminds us, “Do what’s right for you. Forget the expectations. If that means a big wedding, great. If it means hiking into the desert at midnight, even better. Just don’t get pressured into doing a big wedding because other people want it. In the end, your family really wants you to do what brings you the most joy.”

That’s the beauty of a destination elopement—it can look however you want it to. You can include your family or celebrate your marriage with them in a different way. You can make it a one-day adventure or a week-long journey. There’s no single formula, only the opportunity to create something that feels true to your story.

The sun had already set by the time I landed at Dalaman Airport, leaving me in darkness as I transferred to a car. The drive to Fethiye, the first stop on my tour of Türkiye’s Aegean coast, felt like moving through a silhouette, with winding rural roads, the outlines of mountains, and the occasional glow of a roadside café. I had come to see if Türkiye’s “Turquoise Coast” could rival Europe’s best-known wedding destinations, and whether it could offer couples a truly unforgettable celebration. What I discovered was a place even more cinematic, and somehow still untouched.

When dawn broke the next morning, I pulled back the drapes to my first full view of Türkiye. The cove below me was perfectly still, almost like a lake, the water a clear, pale blue that caught the early light. No other hotels in sight. No noise except for the sound of birds. It was nothing short of magical.

My first view of Turkey from Hillside Beach Club.

I arrived with few expectations—and, probably naively, little research—but I left with a plethora of gratitude. The trip was unforgettable not only for the scenery, but also for the hospitality, food, warmth, and genuine care that define Turkish culture.

Now, I can confidently say this: the “Turquoise Coast” deserves a place on every couple’s travel list. Still relatively under the radar yet relatively accessible, it’s ideal for those seeking something beautiful, authentic, and not overrun with destination wedding crowds.

Why Couples Should Consider the Turkish Riviera

When couples dream of destination weddings or honeymoons, a few classics usually come to mind. Iceland, for its dramatic “fire and ice” landscapes. Mexico, for its color, flavor, and easy flights. And across the Mediterranean—France, Italy, Greece—for their turquoise waters and time-worn charm.

But there’s another destination that quietly combines the best of them all. Picture the rugged beauty of Iceland, the vibrant culture and cuisine of Mexico, and the laidback elegance of the Mediterranean—and you have the Turkish Riviera.

Street corridor in Bodrum’s town center

Towns Along the Riviera

Our group spent the most time in Bodrum, a resort town that could easily rival Mykonos or the Algarve region. It’s brimming with luxury hotels and top-tier hospitality but still feels rooted in history. The town blends old and new seamlessly—you can shop at designer boutiques one minute and tour ancient Roman theaters or medieval castles the next.

Further along the coast are Fethiye and Marmaris, two smaller towns in the Muğla region. They’re quieter and more intimate than Bodrum, with a strong sense of local life and community. Both are perfect for snorkeling, hiking, boating, and diving—or simply enjoying long, slow mornings over traditional Turkish breakfasts that stretch into the afternoon. Here, time moves differently, and that’s exactly the point.

The Resorts to Complete Your Turkish Experience

Showstopper Resorts

For couples dreaming of an unforgettable honeymoon or intimate wedding celebration, three properties instantly stood out: Maxx Royal Bodrum, The Bodrum Edition, and Scorpios Bodrum. Each delivers the kind of refined, five-star luxury that feels both indulgent and deeply restorative.

Scorpios Bodrum is carved seamlessly into the landscape, using local stone, timber, and plaster to create a warm, organic feel. It’s private yet elevated, grounded yet stylish. Our group dinner here was an alfresco meal of meze under lanterns while a DJ mixed ambient house tracks; certainly one of the most atmospheric moments of the trip.

Maxx Royal Bodrum sprawls across a private peninsula, where the water is impossibly clear and calm. The resort offers every imaginable option—from private villas and romantic suites to lively beach club days. You can dine at eight restaurants, including Spago by Wolfgang Puck, all without ever leaving the property.

Photo provided by D Maris Bay

The Bodrum Edition became an instant favorite. Known for its sleek modern design, homemade ice cream, and thoughtful service, it’s both luxurious and low-key. Its two standout restaurants—Brava by Chef Stefano Ciotti and the Michelin-starred Kitchen by Chef Osman Sezener—make it a haven for food lovers.

Outside Bodrum, D Maris Bay in Marmaris felt like a world of its own. The hotel’s Christian Dior collaboration brings subtle touches of couture everywhere—from poolside cabanas to in-room details. But the real draw is the setting: five private white-sand beaches (some adults-only), yacht excursions, and panoramic sea views. It’s the kind of place that redefines what a honeymoon can feel like.

Understated Gems: Relaxed Yet Refined

For couples drawn to intimacy over extravagance, there are a few resorts that balance luxury with a relaxed spirit.

Hillside Beach Club in Fethiye is perfect for honeymoons—or even the growing “familymoon” trend. While family-friendly, it offers plenty of serenity through its spa, private coves, and romantic views. It’s remote in the best way possible. My early morning swim here—just me and the still water—was one of the most peaceful moments of the entire trip. The resort’s culinary offerings are extensive, featuring a buffet that rivals any I’ve seen, and its three beaches (including two adults-only: Serenity and Silent Beach) give you plenty of privacy.

Avantgarde Refined in Bodrum harbor is cozy, contemporary, and ideal for couples planning a destination wedding. While less showy than the larger resorts, it’s full of heart, thanks to an exceptional staff and prime location. You’re right in the center of Bodrum’s energy while still having your own quiet, stylish retreat.

Planning Your Turkish Riviera Elopement or Honeymoon

So, why choose Türkiye? Because it’s for couples who love the coast but crave something more original. It’s for travelers who want their photos to make people pause and say, “Wait, where is that?”

For most U.S. couples, ceremonies here are symbolic (with the legal paperwork done at home), but that doesn’t make them any less meaningful—or beautiful.

Most visitors arrive via Dalaman or Bodrum-Milas Airport, both easily connected through Istanbul. Traveling between towns by car offers a scenic look at the region’s coastline and hills.

View from Maxx Royal Bodrum

Summer is the peak season, bringing both heat and crowds. Many resorts close between November and March, so the best times to visit are April–May and September–October—when temperatures are perfect and the coast feels more local.

If you’re planning a wedding or elopement, start with a local planner or one familiar with Mediterranean celebrations. And for your menu, lean into the region’s specialties—lahmacun (Turkish flatbread), pide (Turkish pizza), manti (Turkish ravioli), and döner kebab. For your honeymoon, add a Turkish hammam to your itinerary—it’s as relaxing as it is traditional.

Our Final Thoughts

By the end of my week on the coast, I finally understood what makes this corner of Türkiye so magnetic. It’s not just the sun or the sea—it’s the way time seems to stretch here. Every view, every meal, every breeze off the water feels like an invitation to linger, whether you’re celebrating a wedding, elopement, or simply taking a well-earned escape. The Turkish Riviera is where luxury meets ease: world-class hotels and experiences, wrapped in the warmth and authenticity of local hospitality.

For Leandra and Jasmine, it all started while waiting in line for the restroom at a bar—a meet-cute they still laugh about today. From that moment, their connection grew through honesty, laughter, and shared values. “We felt safe with each other,” they said. “Our inner child emerges when it’s just us, and it feels like we have always known each other.”

Wanting their wedding to mirror the authenticity that defines their relationship, they set their sights on an adventure in New Zealand. An elegant, cinematic elopement in the mountains, complete with helicopter rides, heartfelt vows, and breathtaking views.

What We Love About This Adventure in New Zealand

  • A cinematic, adventure-driven day in the stunning New Zealand mountains
  • A photographer who doubled as planner, handling all the logistics
  • A helicopter ride and mountaintop ceremony with clear skies and the aurora as a backdrop

Letting Their Photographer Lead the Way

Planning a destination wedding from overseas can feel daunting, but Leandra and Jasmine’s experience proved that the right vendor can make all the difference. Once they found Junebug vendor Shaken and Stirred Weddings, everything fell into place.

“We started by choosing the location, and once we were set on New Zealand, we began our search for photographers. That was when we stumbled on Kellie,” they shared. The couple credits Kellie not only for capturing their day beautifully but also for pulling together the entire vendor team. “She wasn’t just our photographer but our wedding planner as well,”.

“She guided us along and coordinated everything, from hair and makeup to the helicopter rides. We honestly didn’t do much. We just needed to pack our bags and show up.”

Turning Their Vision Into a Cinematic Adventure in New Zealand

Leandra and Jasmine envisioned a day that felt cinematic, romantic, and adventure-filled. “Happy Lea, happy life,” Jasmine joked when talking about budgeting. “As long as it makes Lea happy, we do it. She wants hair and make-up? Done. She wants a photoshoot on a mountain top? Done. Lucky for me, I very much would love a mountain top photoshoot as well!”

Despite the chill and wind at the mountaintop ceremony, the couple wouldn’t have had it any other way. “Honestly, it was really cold and we think that was what made it so fun and memorable for us. It’s such an unforgettable memory, and we have a little chuckle every time we think about it.”

Leandra added, “Getting married to my favourite person on this earth, being able to spend the whole day with her, us in our own little bubble surrounded by nature—these things meant everything to me.”

Prioritizing Presence Over Perfection on the Big Day

For all the logistics and planning, what Leandra and Jasmine remember most are the small, unscripted moments. “I remember whispering nonsense into Lea’s ear throughout the day,” Jasmine said. “We had such a good laugh here and there, and in that moment, we would forget we were in a photoshoot and just bask in each other’s embrace.”

Later that evening, Mother Nature added her own magic with clear skies and a glowing aurora. It was the perfect ending to their once-in-a-lifetime adventure in New Zealand.

Practical Tips From Leandra and Jasmine’s Adventure in New Zealand

Their biggest piece of advice? Be intentional. “Yes, obviously you want to be happy, however that’s easier said than done. You and only you have the power to make it happen. You control your mood, so be intentional about it.”

They also stressed the importance of respecting your vendor team: “Be respectful to everyone, especially your team, who try their best to make that day as perfect and special as they can. Goodness, we can’t thank them enough!”

For Leandra and Jasmine, their wedding wasn’t just about the breathtaking scenery or the helicopter ride. It was about love, laughter, and creating an unforgettable adventure in New Zealand that felt entirely their own.

If you’re dreaming of a wedding that blends epic natural landscapes with personal, off-the-beaten-path moments, Faith and Zach’s Seward, Alaska elopement will speak straight to your adventurous heart. The couple, both locals to Anchorage, knew from the beginning that they wanted to escape to Seward—one of their favorite places to visit with their dogs—for a celebration that felt relaxed, remote, and fully immersed in nature. What followed was a wedding day filled with custom touches, lush forested ceremony views, and a private boat cruise through Resurrection Inlet, complete with a waterfall stop and a champagne toast.

Photographer Rose of Matlai Photography, who also helped guide the couple through the planning process, described them as “definitely down for an adventure.” The entire day was designed to be easygoing and organic, with little stress and plenty of space to enjoy Alaska’s beauty. This is the kind of wedding that proves elopements can be both adventurous and stylish—especially when paired with an embroidered velvet suit and a just-for-fun stop at a mid-century modern bar.

Why We Love This Seward, Alaska Elopement

  • A remote ceremony site that felt like a hidden rainforest retreat
  • A personalized boat cruise with a private charter and waterfall visit
  • Two beloved dogs included throughout the day
  • The perfect post-ceremony picnic for two
  • A low-key but high-impact post-ceremony cocktail stop in Seward

A Celebration Designed Around the Wild Alaskan Landscape

From the start, Seward was the obvious choice. “They knew they wanted to get out on the peninsula somehow to celebrate their wedding,” Rose explained. “We ended up booking Miller’s Landing for a half-day boat cruise, which just amped up the level of excitement.”

Planning the day came naturally, thanks to Rose’s familiarity with the area. “I’ve worked there for several years, so I have lots of recommendations on where to go, what to see, and the inside scoop,” she said. One of those ideas included a forest picnic—a cozy and delicious interlude before boarding the boat for an epic cruise through the fjords.

The boat itself became a highlight of the day. “We hired a private charter for the return trip, and it was so cool to stop at a waterfall and have the whole boat to ourselves in Resurrection Inlet. It’s just incredible to be out there on the water with these massive mountains all around you!”

Thoughtful Styling Meets Alaskan Adventure

Just because the couple eloped didn’t mean they held back on style. “Zach rocked an incredible green velvet suit with embroidered inside pockets. It was stunning!” Rose shared. He even added a braided hair detail thanks to Girdwood-based stylist Lana Anderson, who helped complete the look.

Faith opted for a vintage-inspired wedding dress that brought a soft, classic elegance to the rugged landscape. “The contrast was fantastic,” Rose said. “It was also a reminder that when you elope, you really can wear whatever you want!”

A First Look by the Water, and a Ceremony in the Forest

The day started with a sweet first look on the water’s edge in front of a wooden cabin. “Faith walked down the steps, their two dogs circling Zach below, and he turned around to see her. So cute!”

The ceremony itself felt like something out of a fairytale. “It looked like we were deep in the rainforest somewhere,” Rose said. “Despite being on the Alaskan coastline, it felt immense, private, super green, and very peaceful.” That sense of stillness—surrounded by trees and softened by mossy ground—created a deeply intimate atmosphere that perfectly reflected the couple’s love.

From Waterfalls to Cocktails

After saying “I do” and exploring the inlet by boat, Faith and Zach headed to The Flamingo, a newly revamped cocktail bar in downtown Seward. “Despite looking like a mid-mod dive bar on the outside, it has a tremendous menu and brings a total flair to the area,” said Rose. It was a fun, unfussy way to cap off a day full of meaning, movement, and joy.

Eloping Means Doing It Your Way

If Faith and Zach’s Seward, Alaska elopement proves anything, it’s that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to getting married. You don’t need a sea of florals, an officiant, or even an aisle unless that’s what you want. An intimate forest ceremony, a boat tour with your dogs, and a final stop at a cool local bar? That’s just as meaningful—and wildly romantic—as any traditional celebration.

Eloping is your chance to strip away everything unnecessary and focus on what matters most: the two of you, your love, and the new adventure you’re creating together.

For Marie and Ben, adventure has always been at the heart of their relationship. Their love story spans continents—from the lush jungles of Sri Lanka to the dramatic landscapes of New Zealand—but it was the magnetic pull of Sicily that ultimately led them to exchange vows in the shadow of Mount Etna.

Their Sicilian elopement was the perfect blend of intimacy and natural wonder. With no guests, no fuss, and scenery doing the storytelling, they crafted a celebration rooted in simplicity and intention. The venue, a countryside dimora tucked in the hills near Taormina, offered everything they’d hoped for—a peaceful ceremony with a touch of adventure, far from the hustle and bustle of tourism.

Why They Chose a Sicilian Elopement

Long before wedding planning began, Marie and Ben had already fallen under Sicily’s spell. During a three-week trip a few years prior, they explored the island’s hidden corners, including a spontaneous visit to Stromboli during an eruption cycle—an unforgettable experience that sealed their decision. “It was during this trip we both agreed that Sicily was special and somewhere we wanted to tie the knot.”

When envisioning their day, they knew exactly what they wanted: to feel removed from the noise of the world. “Somewhere with a sense of escape,” they shared. “We won’t have any guests, and scenery is important to us, so anywhere with a lovely backdrop.”

Planning a Day That Felt Like Them

That vision gave their photographers and planners—Italian sisters Benni and Carol of Benni Carol Photography—clear direction. “We knew exactly how to proceed,” the sisters told us. The location they found brought everything together: a quiet property with its own vineyard, traditional architecture, and panoramic views of the countryside with Mount Etna rising in the distance.

Marie and Ben had discovered Benni and Carol through a simple online search, and the connection was instant. “We specialize in planning and photographing elopements all over our home country, Italy,” Benni explains. “And adventurous celebrations like Marie and Ben’s are what we love most.”

Junebug Tip: Start your wedding planning with a mission statement. For Marie and Ben, it was simple: they wanted a peaceful, quiet celebration with a sense of escape. Defining your day’s purpose early on can help you make aligned decisions throughout the planning process.

The Intimate Ceremony

From the start, Marie and Ben imagined a ceremony surrounded by natural beauty—whether it was a volcano on the horizon or a courtyard with weathered stone. Benni and Carol found a location that brought both to life: a peaceful terrace with hand-built stone walls overlooking vineyards, with Mount Etna right in view.

The setting felt timeless and calm—everything they had hoped for. With only the Sicilian countryside as their witness, they exchanged vows that were deeply personal and quietly powerful. The moment was organic and unhurried, reflecting their desire for a ceremony that felt truly like them.

The Post-Ceremony Adventure That Made It All Unforgettable

After the ceremony, the couple shared a private lunch in a quiet garden corner of the property. A tasting menu of regional Sicilian dishes was paired with wine from the estate’s vineyard.

Then, in true adventurous spirit, Marie and Ben traded their formal shoes for hiking boots and met a local guide for a private trek on Mount Etna. The trail took them far from the tourist routes and into silence, giving them uninterrupted space to reflect and explore. As the sun sank behind the volcano, they opened a bottle of the same estate wine and toasted to their new beginning.

Advice for Other Couples

Marie and Ben’s biggest takeaway? Trust your team. “Put yourself in the hands of people who know the destination. Trust your elopement planner and photographer, and let yourself enjoy the adventure.”

Their Sicilian elopement is proof that when the setting is this spectacular and the celebration this personal, very little else is needed—just a love for the journey and for each other.

Elegant Fusion Looks for This Modern Indian Elopement Inspiration

The couple’s fashion was a true highlight of the day. From a modern twist on traditional Indian attire to sleek Western silhouettes, every outfit made a statement. The bride began in an exquisite ivory saree dripping with silver embellishments, paired with stacked bangles, dazzling statement jewelry, and intricate mehndi. Later, she changed into a chic halter gown, complemented by a delicate veil and sculptural earrings—proof that you really can have the best of both worlds. The groom effortlessly matched her energy, wearing both a sharp tuxedo and a classic ivory kurta with subtle embroidery.

Exploring the City, One Magical Moment at a Time

The elopement scenes unfolded throughout the city. From serene vow exchanges in light-filled corners to romantic walks on bustling streets framed by historic buildings. Every moment felt spontaneous yet cinematic, showing just how magical Mexico City can be for couples wanting an elopement that’s both bold and deeply personal.

A Fresh Take on Modern Wedding Tablescapes

The reception setup was minimalist in palette yet rich in texture and detail. A long white table set in a sun-drenched room was adorned with striking blue and purple, pops of vibrant yellow florals, and fresh lemons for a playful contrast. The table was grounded by natural wood and rattan chairs that added an organic warmth to the space. Everything about the setup—down to the matte white plates and simple tapered candles—felt intentional and elegant. Perfect for a modern-day couple seeking simplicity without sacrificing style.

Whether you’re an Indian couple looking to blend cultural traditions with contemporary design, or simply inspired by the vibrancy of Hindu ceremonies, this shoot is proof that a destination elopement can be both deeply meaningful and undeniably stylish.

Planning a wedding is never easy, but for Adam and Tosha, making their dream of a Greece elopement a reality was worth every challenge. With just eight guests, a soulful saxophonist, and the breathtaking Mediterranean Sea as their backdrop, they crafted a celebration that was deeply personal, stylish, and unforgettable.

Adam and Tosha’s love story began in 2016 when they connected on OkCupid while attending Washington State University. Their first date at Airway Hills Golf Course lasted three hours, and from that moment on, they were inseparable. “Adam’s kind heart won me over, and my energy reinvigorated him,” Tosha recalls. They spent every day together that summer, sharing coffee breaks and late-night sweets, building a foundation that would lead them to their ultimate adventure: a wedding halfway across the world.

What We Love About This Greece Elopement:

Booking a Venue Sight Unseen and Choosing the Right Vendors

Their dream was clear—a wedding that felt intimate, effortless, and organic, set against Santorini’s stunning cliffside. “We wanted our wedding to feel fun, intimate, and heartfelt, set against the breathtaking backdrop of a garden on a cliffside overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.”

To create this seamless experience, they combined the best of both worlds—bringing trusted vendors from Washington State while also supporting local Santorini businesses. “Being in the industry, I already knew a few vendors I needed to bring with me. For the others, we wanted to support island life and give back to their industry as well.”

Their approach to planning was meticulous yet flexible. They researched venues extensively, narrowed down their options, and finally selected the perfect location—without ever seeing it in person. “We committed to our venue sight unseen, which was surreal when we finally arrived,” Tosha says.

A Celebration Inspired by Greece’s Beauty and Spirit

The wedding design was inspired by the natural beauty of Santorini. “We took inspiration from the local plants, food, and infrastructure, as well as the spirit of Greek life,” Tosha explains. They ensured their guests’ comfort with parasols and fans, and selected seating that blended seamlessly with the scenery.

Their intimate ceremony was perfectly complemented by a unique musical choice—a saxophonist instead of a DJ, creating a soulful, romantic atmosphere. And to kick off the celebration, they hosted their rehearsal dinner on a 50-foot sailing yacht. “It felt like a movie—sailing on the sea, jumping into warm water, eating the best dinner while watching the sunset, and listening to the Mamma Mia! soundtrack. I tear up just thinking about it.”

Greece Elopement Style

Every detail of their Greece elopement was a reflection of their personalities and priorities. Tosha’s gown was a shimmering masterpiece—three layers of tulle that sparkled with every movement, weighing an impressive nine pounds. Adam embraced effortless style, pairing a tan suit with dark brown suede shoes and custom dog cufflinks, a heartfelt nod to their beloved pets back home.

For her signature bridal look, Tosha chose Chanel’s #48, a soft rose lipstick, and Gucci Bloom Acqua di Fiori as her wedding day fragrance. Adam, true to his nature-loving spirit, kept his hair down and skipped neckwear, embodying a relaxed, organic style that felt perfectly him.

A Serendipitous Ceremony Twist

Their wedding day began with a peaceful first look at Nimbus Santorini, a boutique hotel in Oia that set the perfect tone for the intimate celebration ahead. The cliffside ceremony space, designed for just eight guests, felt both cozy and breathtaking—exactly what they had envisioned.

“We just loved being able to commit our handwritten vows to one another at a venue we picked without seeing it in person. We worked so hard to stay true to what we wanted, and standing there together made it all feel so surreal.”

No wedding is complete without an unexpected twist. In a rush to the venue, Tosha forgot her bouquet at the hotel. While the staff rushed to deliver it, their officiant—who had another wedding scheduled—had to leave. “Luckily, our lead bartender stepped up to officiate,” Tosha laughs. “His first language is Greek, so there were some funny moments reading the script in English, but honestly, it felt more heartfelt and personal than the original officiant would have.”

It was an unplanned but perfect moment—one that made their ceremony even more unforgettable.

A Greece Elopement Reception Under Arches and Starlight

After exchanging vows, they explored the charming town of Oia, capturing stunning photos, sipping champagne, and sharing their first dance before cutting their cake. “We took dance classes for a year, and it paid off—it made for such a memorable moment that gave everyone something to talk about during dinner.” As cold sparklers lit up the cliffside, the moment felt straight out of a dream.

Their reception took place beneath elegant arches that perfectly reflected their style, creating a warm and intimate atmosphere. Guests enjoyed a thoughtfully curated three-course dinner featuring authentic local dishes, setting the stage for a magical evening.

Later that night, after the last toast had been made and the final song had played, they stripped off their wedding attire and jumped into their private pool together—an intimate, carefree ending to a day they’d never forget.

Advice for Future Couples

For couples dreaming of a Greece elopement, Tosha shares one key piece of advice: “Give yourself plenty of time to plan an international wedding. Trying to rush it only leads to stress.”

For Adam and Tosha, their wedding wasn’t just about the ceremony—it was about crafting an entire experience that felt authentic, joyful, and uniquely theirs. And with Santorini’s cliffs, the Mediterranean breeze, and their closest loved ones by their side, they created a love story that will be cherished for a lifetime.

When Shelbi and Shawn began planning their big day, they knew they didn’t want anything conventional. No big venue, no reception, no bouquet—just the two of them in a place that was deeply meaningful to their story. Their minimal Iceland elopement wasn’t just a wedding, it was a chance to honor their love in a setting that had shaped them from the very beginning.

“Iceland was the first trip we took as a couple. The landscape and history left us speechless and wanting more,” they shared. Their love for the country only grew with each visit, and by their third trip, they were engaged. Choosing Iceland as their wedding destination felt like the most natural decision in the world.

Their adventure led them to an unexpected gem—an inselberg on a black sand beach, a spot that wasn’t even on their itinerary. “We came across a place that was not in our plans. A large inselberg on a black sand beach.” A spontaneous hike turned into a memorable adventure. Shelbi, eager to explore, found herself hiking alone to the summit while Shawn waited below, anxiously watching the clock. As the fog rolled in, Shelbi reached the top and found complete solitude, while Shawn, concerned, began to panic. “When deciding the ceremony location, it was perfect. It was where we had already shared an unforgettable experience—navigating through the challenges of getting lost and finding each other again.”

When it came to their wedding attire, Shelbi and Shawn stayed true to their minimalist style, but with their own personal twist. “The color black is Shawn’s go-to for everything fashion-related. So an all-black suit was fitting for the occasion. Also paired with Vans, came as no surprise as his collection is in the multiples.” Shelbi, initially aiming for simplicity, found herself drawn to a dramatic black dress. “Just because I wanted to keep things minimalistic didn’t mean the dress had to be! I typically dress with eclectic and timeless pieces, and this is what the dress should be. And because two is better than one, we have the black dress.”

Nail the winter bride look with our roundup of cute wedding boots, from western and glam to adventurous weather-proof styles.

Their ceremony was as unique as their relationship—an intimate affair held by an Ásatrú priest, set against Iceland’s dramatic and moody backdrop. “The ceremony was beyond expectations. His words, we will carry for a lifetime. I could not stop crying, which I never ever do.” They also couldn’t speak highly enough of their officiant, Haukur Bragason, who canceled his own plans and drove five hours to be there for them.

The couple’s minimal Iceland elopement continued as an adventure, capturing the raw emotions of the day with the help of their talented photographers and Junebug vendor, Daria and Hjalti from Ást og Hraun. “Our elopement was unforgettable for so many reasons, and entirely thanks to them. It was such a joy working with them. Their energy and passion did not go unnoticed.” Daria and Hjalti’s ability to capture the couple’s intimate moments made the day even more memorable. “It truly was special, to see their eyes light up before executing the most perfect shot!”

A special moment came later in the day when Daria and Hjalti suggested a final unplanned stop at Skogafoss. The couple returned to the place where, six years earlier, they had shared a significant moment: Shawn had asked, “How do we take it all in? I don’t want to leave,” and Shelbi had responded, “We will get married here.” Now, they were back, dancing, laughing, and embracing in the misty beauty of the falls as midnight approached.

In addition to showcasing their personal style, they also found practical ways to keep costs down. In addition to their unique and personal style, they also made ways to keep their budget manageable. “We were able to cut costs since we did not have a reception. No venue fee! We got pizza to go and ate as we traveled around.” Without flowers, cake, or a venue, they had the freedom to splurge on two dresses. “Eloping is a hard decision for most, but it was entirely perfect for us. We are proud of making a choice for us.”

Shelbi and Shawn’s minimal Iceland elopement wasn’t just a wedding—it was a chapter in their story, set in a country that’s meant so much to them. It was exactly what they wanted, from the intimate ceremony to all those raw, real moments captured by their photographers.

If you’re thinking about eloping, they have one piece of advice: “Hire local. Coming from out of state or, in our case, out of the country, find ways to honor the people, land, and traditions.” Their elopement was more than just a day to celebrate love—it was made even more special by the incredible people who helped bring it all to life.

At sunrise, the couple woke up in their cozy cabin near Lago di Braies, surrounded by a winter wonderland. The soft morning light and snow-covered trees set a serene tone for their intimate preparation moments.

Their first destination? The frozen Lago di Braies. Walking hand-in-hand across the ice, Kristina and Cristian were framed by the towering, snow-capped peaks. The stillness of the lake and the crisp winter air made their vows feel even more profound.

The pair’s portraits in the Dolomites are a stunning blend of elegance and adventure. Against the frozen expanse of Lago di Braies,  their love radiating warmth amidst the icy backdrop. The towering, snow-capped peaks framed each moment perfectly, creating scenes that felt straight out of a dream.

Next, they ventured to Cinque Torri, where the snow-blanketed rock formations created an awe-inspiring backdrop. Kristina’s flowing gown and Cristian’s tailored suit stood out beautifully against the pristine white snow, adding a touch of elegance to the rugged scenery. They laughed, danced, and embraced, soaking in every moment of their adventure.

Kristina and Cristian’s snowy adventure showcases why the Dolomites are a dream destination for couples who crave breathtaking scenery and meaningful experiences. With fewer crowds during winter, you’ll have the chance to fully soak in the serene beauty of the mountains. It’s perfect for anyone looking to escape the ordinary and enjoy a truly intimate celebration.

If you’re dreaming of a winter mountain elopement, start planning early, dress warmly, and choose a photographer who knows the area well—like Junebug vendor Dan Sauer—to help guide you through the experience.
