When two adventurous souls fall in love, it’s only fitting that their wedding takes place somewhere extraordinary. For Caroline and Daniel, that meant saying their vows inside a glittering blue glacier during their ice cave wedding in Iceland. What began as a quiet connection in Oxford during lockdown turned into an epic celebration of love, courage, and togetherness against one of the world’s most dramatic backdrops.

Their love story started simply—two Master’s students navigating pandemic life, meeting through Tinder because “that was the only way to do it at the time.” For months, their dates were walks through Port Meadow Park, always distanced and proper. “Caroline wouldn’t even let us hold hands at first! It was all very Victorian,” Daniel said. But through those walks, they built something steady and real, which later inspired a wedding that was intimate, personal, and rooted in authenticity.

What We Love About This Ice Cave Wedding

  • An unforgettable ice cave ceremony surrounded by glaciers
  • A private vow exchange followed by a black sand beach celebration in Vik
  • Caroline climbing an ice wall (in her wedding dress!) with crampons and an ice pick
  • Glacial-inspired details like translucent vases that mimicked ice
  • A design that perfectly reflected their adventurous, unconventional personalities

How the Idea of an Exotic Elopement Became Reality

After a winter engagement at Blenheim Palace—on the same spot where Winston Churchill proposed to his wife—Caroline and Daniel found themselves drawn to the idea of a small winter wedding abroad. “We fell in love with the idea of a small, exotic location,” they said. “Once we saw photos of Icelandic weddings online, we knew we had to make it happen before all the best ice caves melted away.”

They planned most of their big day themselves, leaning on the advice of local professionals familiar with Iceland’s unpredictable terrain. The result was a day that combined spontaneity with serenity. Their vow exchange took place deep inside a cave carved by nature, with blue ice walls surrounding them like crystal cathedrals.

A Ceremony as Adventurous as Their Love Story

Their private ring exchange and vow ceremony inside the cave felt surreal. Caroline even strapped on crampons and picked up an ice axe to climb an ice wall after the ceremony, still in her wedding dress. “It was quite a sight to see,” Daniel recalled. The moment captured everything about who they are: daring, lighthearted, and willing to go beyond the ordinary for each other.

Afterward, they celebrated with a more public ceremony on the black sand beach of Vik. The landscape’s striking contrast of dark sand and icy blue tones was a sight to remember.

Turning Their Vision into a Personal Experience

From the start, Caroline and Daniel wanted their wedding to be a reflection of their personalities—simple, wild, and meaningful. “It was a very small and cozy affair,” they shared. “That’s exactly who we are: adventurous and unconventional.” Even their decor followed the theme, with flower vases resembling glacial ice and muted winter tones that echoed the landscape around them. Every decision, from the location to the color palette, came back to what mattered most: crafting a day that felt like them.

Advice for Couples Dreaming of Their Own Ice Cave Wedding

For couples thinking about an ice cave wedding, Caroline and Daniel’s biggest piece of advice is to stay flexible. “The weather can change in an instant, and that’s part of the beauty of it. Lean into the unpredictability and focus on the experience.”

They also recommend working with local experts familiar with Iceland’s conditions. “They know the safest spots and how to navigate the ice. Having that local insight made everything so much smoother.”

For Soul and Sky Weddings, the inspiration began with a question: what if a vow renewal could be more than a ceremony—what if it could be an immersive adventure? To bring that vision to life, the team designed a two-day experience that would feel both authentic and unforgettable. Jasmine and Vince, who truly renewed their vows on the ice, became the heart of this story. Instead of a traditional venue, they chose a remote Alaskan glacier, where glacier glamping transformed wild terrain into quiet luxury.

What We Love About This Glacier Glamping Vow Renewal

  • A private glacier glamping camp accessible only by helicopter
  • A vow renewal in an amphitheater of towering ice walls
  • Intentional details like cozy twinkle lights, charcuterie, and a glacier-inspired cake
  • Florals designed to move seamlessly from ceremony to reception space
  • A multi-day approach that allowed for slower, more meaningful experiences

Soul and Sky Weddings

Redefining Luxury in Elopements

This vow renewal was built around a simple philosophy: the experience itself is the most beautiful detail. “Not many people can say they exchanged vows on a glacier,” Jasmine shared. She remembered the helicopter ride, the hike across the ice, and even raising a toast with glacier water: “When I say there wasn’t a single moment that stood out above the rest, it’s because everything was unforgettable. It was all magic.”

Rather than focusing solely on aesthetics, Soul and Sky Weddings designed a journey where immersion became the hallmark. From falling asleep under the midnight sun to waking slowly in their bell tent, every part of the glacier glamping stay felt personal and unhurried. Couples planning elopements can take note: extending celebrations across more than one day gives space to slow down, savor, and create core memories.

A Ceremony Among the Ice

For their renewal, Jasmine and Vince trekked from camp to a natural amphitheater of glacial walls. Their guide led a unification reading before they exchanged private vows as meltwater trickled nearby and sunlight broke through the shifting clouds.

Fashion was chosen with adventure in mind. Jasmine’s fitted lace gown with dramatic sleeves paired perfectly with platform boots and crampons, while Vince’s modern, breathable suit balanced form and function.

JB Tip: If your elopement takes place in the elements, prioritize attire that allows movement without sacrificing style.

Creating Comfort in the Wild

The glacier camp was more than shelter, it became part of the design. Twinkle lights, soft blankets, and cozy slippers transformed the bell tent into a haven. A charcuterie spread and a glacier-inspired cake, flown in by helicopter, made the experience even more special. “Camping on the glacier was, without question, the most unforgettable part. Kate transformed our tent into something magical—she filled it with flowers, strung twinkle lights, and made it feel like our own little world. For a while, it was as if time stood still,” Jasmine recalled.

The florals echoed that same practicality and thoughtfulness. “Kate approached me knowing she needed designs that could withstand the cold and be used in multiple ways,” florist Natasha Price of Paper Peony Florals explained. “I chose durable blooms like roses, strawflower, thistle, limonium, and wax flower, along with hardy greens like eucalyptus. The garland was my favorite piece—it was lightweight, versatile, and could move from the tent to the railing to the cake table. Seeing it used in so many ways was incredibly rewarding.”

Glacier Glamping as the New Adventure Luxe

Day two highlighted what makes multi-day elopements so special: unhurried time together. Jasmine and Vince went for a hike in the surrounding mountains and ended the day with another cozy evening in their glamping tent. “At least three different times Kate reminded us to pause, breathe, and simply take it all in. Those moments are etched into me forever.”

This slower pace allowed them to fully experience the wild beauty of Alaska without rushing. As Soul and Sky Weddings explained, this is the future of elopements: exclusive, deeply personal, and stretched across days so couples can feel present in every moment.

More than a styled shoot, this vow renewal showed how focusing on the experience itself can feel like true luxury. Glacier glamping provided the backdrop for moments Jasmine described as unforgettable: “Honestly, I can still remember every detail. Nothing else will ever be engraved so deeply into my memory.”

JB Tip: Consider extending your elopement beyond one day. Whether it’s a welcome dinner, a day of adventure, or a simple hike together, more time means more memories.

When you think of winter weddings, the idea of a cozy indoor reception might come to mind—but what if you could add a touch of adventure? This winter elopement inspiration proves that it’s possible to have both glamour and excitement, with an unexpected twist: ice skating.

“We were inspired by old money glam and wanted to create a scene that captured that classic, upscale vibe of a downtown hotel wedding—while adding the thrill of a sweet ice skating date to celebrate,” says Junebug vendor Chelsa Jay. And with that vision in mind, the team set out to showcase an intimate yet glamorous elopement that breaks away from the traditional.

The shoot took place at The Hotel Captain Cook, a historic luxury venue in downtown Anchorage. “The Hotel Captain Cook was perfect for this shoot. Its elegance set the tone for the old money glam vibe we envisioned,” Chelsea shares. The juxtaposition of its vintage charm and modern amenities provided a stylish base for the shoot, combining both timeless beauty and warmth for the indoor moments.

The bride’s dress combines vintage and modern styles, with dramatic pearl adorned puffed sleeves and a sleek, short silhouette that’s both bold and elegant. Paired with classic heels, it’s a timeless yet fresh look. The groom’s tailored gray suit paired with a lapel boutonniere, complements the romantic, glamorous vibe of the winter elopement.

However, it was the outdoor ice skating that really stole the show. “I’ve never photographed a couple ice skating on their wedding day before, so this was a first for me! I’m photographing a skiing couple this month and am excited to capture more of these adventurous wedding moments,” says Chelsea, clearly excited about future opportunities to capture couples trying something new and unexpected.

The florals by The Teal Door brought a touch of softness to the chilly surroundings. “The florals were gorgeous—those muted shades of blush and deep burgundy looked stunning against the snow. They were the perfect way to tie in the romance of the shoot.”

Of course, Alaska’s weather added an extra layer of challenge. “Alaska is known for its unpredictable weather, so we had no idea what to expect on the shoot day,” Chelsea explains. “It was nearly 40° in the days leading up to the shoot—completely uncharacteristic for this time of year. But on the shoot day, the temps dropped to the single digits. We took a few warm-up breaks in our vehicles, but our models were absolute troopers and made it through with smiles.”

The cold didn’t stop the couple from enjoying every moment. The ice skating was a playful and romantic experience, ending with a champagne pop to celebrate. “They had so much fun skating together. It was such a unique moment that added something special to the day.”

This styled shoot proves that winter weddings can be both stylish and fun, even when the temperatures drop. “I left this shoot feeling hopeful that it would inspire couples who are on the fence about having a winter wedding,” Chelsea shares. “Winter glam is totally achievable—you just have to embrace the chill and let the magic of the season unfold!”

Nicolette and Ben met in Chicago and instantly connected over their mutual love of skiing, adventure, and good food and wine. Just eight months into dating, they took a life-changing trip to Zermatt, Switzerland—a place that captured their hearts and cemented their decision to spend their lives together. So, when it came time to plan their wedding, the choice was obvious: a Switzerland destination wedding, surrounded by the majestic Matterhorn and their closest loved ones.

“We love spending time outdoors and sharing good meals with friends and family,” the couple shared. To bring their dream to life, they worked with a talented vendor team, including Junebug vendor Helena Brauer Photography, who captured every moment with stunning artistry. Their vision? A weekend getaway that brought 50 of their closest loved ones to the place that meant so much to them. With a focus on good food, meaningful moments, and natural beauty, their big day became the ultimate reflection of their love story.

Rather than a traditional rehearsal dinner, the couple kicked off their Switzerland destination wedding with a welcome ski day. “Skiing is such a big part of our story, so we invited everyone to spend the day on the slopes.” After hours of skiing and snowboarding, guests gathered at Chez Dany, a cozy mountainside restaurant accessible by skiing, hiking, or gondola. The afternoon was filled with hearty Swiss dishes, breathtaking views, and plenty of laughs. That evening, everyone regrouped at the hotel bar for a casual nightcap. With its warm, welcoming vibe, it was the perfect spot to relax, mingle, and set the tone for the celebration ahead.

Before the ceremony, the couple shared an emotional first look in a snowy meadow with the Matterhorn towering in the background. As Nicolette approached Ben, her gown trailing in the snow, the soft winter light added a cinematic glow to the moment.  When Ben turned to see her, his joyful expression said it all. “Seeing each other in that setting was surreal.”

The ceremony, held outdoors at the Matthiol Hotel, was a breathtaking mix of simplicity and natural beauty. Rows of wooden chairs draped with fur blankets faced the iconic Matterhorn. The aisle, lined with greenery, torches, and baby’s breath, seamlessly blended with the snowy landscape.

“We didn’t focus on color schemes or elaborate decorations,” they shared. “The beauty of the mountains spoke for itself, and we just added a few simple touches to enhance it.”

Nicolette and Ben exchanged vows they had written themselves, and their mothers gave touching readings. “The most special part was walking back down the aisle together. The sun was shining, our guests were cheering, and everyone was ringing the Swiss cowbells we placed on their chairs. It was pure magic.”

The reception dinner and party took place in the hotel’s dining room, where modern Swiss chalet decor set a cozy and elegant tone. Tables were dressed with glowing candles and baby’s breath centerpieces.

To make the reception uniquely theirs, Nicolette and Ben named each table after places they had lived together. “We started with Chicago, where we met, and ended with Boston, where we live now.” Each table card included a short note about what the place meant to them, a personal touch that helped tell their story.

“We wanted to make sure everyone was having the best time.” Their focus on great food, wine, and music kept the energy high all night.

One of the biggest hits? The ski shot board. Guests lined up side by side, taking shots together from a long wooden ski fitted with shot glasses. “It was such a fun way to keep the party going.”

Planning a destination wedding is no small feat, but Nicolette and Ben were in great hands with their planner, Mart Mari Weddings. “We truly couldn’t have brought this wedding to life without them.” The couple’s vision for the day was clear: a celebration that felt meaningful, fun, and organic. “We didn’t want our wedding to feel like a series of moments choreographed for the camera. We wanted it to be a genuine celebration.”

Looking back, the couple said they wouldn’t change a thing about their Switzerland destination wedding. “It was everything we hoped for and more. We feel so lucky to have had that experience with our closest friends and family.” When asked for advice, they emphasized focusing on what truly matters. “Details are important, but at the end of the day, it’s about celebrating your love and being present. Enjoy every moment—it only happens once.”

At sunrise, the couple woke up in their cozy cabin near Lago di Braies, surrounded by a winter wonderland. The soft morning light and snow-covered trees set a serene tone for their intimate preparation moments.

Their first destination? The frozen Lago di Braies. Walking hand-in-hand across the ice, Kristina and Cristian were framed by the towering, snow-capped peaks. The stillness of the lake and the crisp winter air made their vows feel even more profound.

The pair’s portraits in the Dolomites are a stunning blend of elegance and adventure. Against the frozen expanse of Lago di Braies,  their love radiating warmth amidst the icy backdrop. The towering, snow-capped peaks framed each moment perfectly, creating scenes that felt straight out of a dream.

Next, they ventured to Cinque Torri, where the snow-blanketed rock formations created an awe-inspiring backdrop. Kristina’s flowing gown and Cristian’s tailored suit stood out beautifully against the pristine white snow, adding a touch of elegance to the rugged scenery. They laughed, danced, and embraced, soaking in every moment of their adventure.

Kristina and Cristian’s snowy adventure showcases why the Dolomites are a dream destination for couples who crave breathtaking scenery and meaningful experiences. With fewer crowds during winter, you’ll have the chance to fully soak in the serene beauty of the mountains. It’s perfect for anyone looking to escape the ordinary and enjoy a truly intimate celebration.

If you’re dreaming of a winter mountain elopement, start planning early, dress warmly, and choose a photographer who knows the area well—like Junebug vendor Dan Sauer—to help guide you through the experience. The Dolomites offer an unmatched combination of romance, breathtaking scenery, and adventure, making it the perfect destination for couples who cherish the journey as much as the destination.

The Couple:

Gabriella and Michele

The Wedding:

Hjörleifshöfði, Iceland

Starting Their Ethereal Iceland Elopement with an Epic Ice Cave Adventure

The most memorable part of our wedding day was hiking through the Katla ice cave in our wedding dresses. It was an incredible experience to be walking on ice in such an epic setting, and the contrast of our dresses with the surroundings made it even more special. The adventure and unique location made the day unforgettable and the perfect way to start our marriage.

Achieving Understated Elegance with Black Accents and Natural Beauty

For our wedding day, incorporating black accents was vital to us, adding a touch of sophistication to our overall aesthetic. Gabriella wore a beautiful black veil, and the end result was a beautiful blend of understated elegance and personal style, allowing us to shine on our special day. We also wanted our looks to reflect our natural selves, so we opted for minimal makeup and braided hairstyles. We believe simplicity can be elegant and want to feel comfortable and authentic. Our stylist captured our vision perfectly. We shared inspirational pictures with her, focusing on soft, natural looks that complemented the stunning surroundings of Yoda Cave. The end result was a beautiful blend of understated elegance and personal style, allowing us to shine on our special day.

Embracing Iceland’s Natural Beauty for a Raw and Ethereal Ethereal Iceland Elopement Ceremony

Our wedding took place in a cave in Iceland, so the location’s natural beauty heavily influenced the vibe, style, and design. We wanted a raw, organic, and intimate feel, blending the dramatic surroundings with minimal decor. The cave’s textures and lighting created an ethereal atmosphere, and we added subtle touches—like candlelight and greenery—to enhance the space without overshadowing its natural charm. It felt like a magical, hidden world, perfectly reflecting the adventurous spirit of our relationship.

The Special Touch That Made Their Ceremony Unforgettable

One of the best surprises on our wedding day was when Michele arranged for a live musician to perform during the ceremony. Such an unexpected and personal touch made the moment even more special.

Trusting Your Wedding Planner is Vital

Our best wedding planning advice is to trust your wedding planners, especially if you’re working with someone as incredible as Pink Iceland. They truly made our vision come to life and took so much of the stress out of the process. Communicate what you want, then trust the experts to handle the details. Pink Iceland did a fantastic job with our unique wedding, and we couldn’t have asked for a better planner.

Transforming Their Wedding into an Unforgettable Adventure

We’re incredibly proud that we could give our families and friends a true adventure. Our wedding wasn’t just a ceremony—it was a journey. From the stunning landscapes of Iceland to the unique experience of a cave wedding, it was unlike anything most of our guests had ever done before. Many traveled from far away, and we wanted to make sure the trip was unforgettable for them, too. It was incredible to share such an extraordinary location and create lasting memories together in a way that went far beyond a typical wedding day.

Prioritizing Family and Connection

The most important aspects of planning our wedding were ensuring our family could all stay together, choosing the perfect location, and creating an adventure of a lifetime. We wanted the experience to feel connected and intimate, so having everyone together in one place was a priority. Skálakot Manor provided all of this; it was a beautiful and cozy place for everyone to stay and perfectly complemented the Icelandic landscape with its charm and elegance. The location was key—we wanted somewhere breathtaking and unique, and Iceland was perfect for that. Ultimately, we wanted our wedding to be more than just a day; we wanted it to be a memorable journey we could share with our loved ones.

Why They Chose Yoda Cave as Backdrop of Their Special Day

We chose Yoda Cave in Iceland as our wedding venue because of our shared love for caves and the breathtaking natural beauty that surrounds them. The cave’s unique formations and serene atmosphere create an enchanting backdrop that perfectly reflects our personalities and relationships. We wanted our special day to accurately represent who we are, and Yoda Cave offered us an unforgettable experience surrounded by nature’s splendor.

Whether attending a black-tie affair, a cozy mountain lodge celebration, or a chic urban soirée, there are countless unexpected ways to blend style and comfort. In this guide, we’re breaking free from the predictable to bring you fresh outfit ideas for every winter dress code, location, and aesthetic.

To help you kick off the search for your perfect winter wedding guest dress, here are some of our top tips:

  • Opt for winter-friendly fabrics like velvet, tweed, lace, or jacquard
  • Embrace rich winter shades such as navy, baby blue, burgundy, emerald, gold, or silver
  • Combat the chill by layering with thick tights when possible
  • Closed-toe pumps are always a safe choice, but sleek boots can look great with more casual dresses
  • Try pairing a coat with a bold print like leopard or plaid with a simple, solid-colored dress
  • Don’t forget winter accessories like hats, scarves, or gloves for outdoor moments
  • Steer clear of dresses in winter whites, creams, or beiges—too close to white to take the risk!

Winter Wedding Guest Dresses Based on Dress Code or Aesthetic

Black Tie or Formal Wedding

For a black-tie or formal dress code, a floor-length dress or gown is a must. From there, the options are endless. Velvet remains a timeless choice, as it’s universally flattering and perfect for winter weddings. A simple yet elegant velvet wrap dress is always a standout option. If you’re looking to make a statement, tiered dresses are trending and add a playful touch. Don’t be afraid to experiment with prints—a subtle rose pattern on a flowy, floor-length gown can be both sophisticated and unexpected.

Cocktail or Semi-Formal Wedding

Wearing a mini or midi-length cocktail dress for a winter wedding offers plenty of versatility and opportunities for creative styling. We’ve spotted 80s-inspired dresses making a comeback, featuring details such as ruching, bubble hems, frills, and off-the-shoulder necklines. Bows, whether bold or subtle, are another trend taking the spotlight. Think a big, satin bow on your lower back for a 60s vibe or a playful bow print for something a little out of the ordinary.

Downtown or Urban Wedding

Why let the men have all the tuxedo fun? A tuxedo dress is a bold and ultra-sophisticated option for a city wedding. For those who love modern elegance, corset tops paired with skirts in lengths from mini to maxi offer a chic twist. Not feeling something form-fitting? Looser shift or trapeze-style dresses are effortlessly cool. And for the daring fashionista, sheer panels, bold colors, and asymmetrical necklines capture the edgy, statement-making energy of an urban setting.

Mountain Lodge or Resort Wedding

Winter weddings at a ski or mountain lodge often mean snow. Choose a dress that’s beautiful yet functional—skip the dragging trains or restrictive sheath skirts that make movement tricky. For warmth, stick to fabrics like wool, fleece, cashmere, or a heavier crepe or velvet, and steer clear of lightweight options like cotton or polyester. Dresses with linings or layered textures are perfect for keeping you cozy while still looking effortlessly chic against a stunning snowy backdrop.

Christmas Wedding

A Christmas wedding isn’t a costume party, but leaning into the theme is surely welcome. Is red too obvious? We don’t think so. It’s flattering on multiple skin tones and adds that perfect festive pop to your look. More options are green minidresses with tights, a velvet babydoll dress with puffy sleeves, or a piece with intricate buttons or trimming for vintage charm. For inspiration, consider your Christmas outfits from childhood—then give those nostalgic styles a grown-up twist like figure-hugging silhouettes or shoulder-baring designs. Festive and fashionable.

New Year’s Eve Wedding

Sequins, sparkle, and fringe—oh my! If you’re lucky enough to attend a New Year’s Eve wedding, it’s the perfect excuse to bring out your glitziest attire. Think beyond traditional dresses and embrace metallics and shimmering fabrics that catch the light as you dance the night away. Whether you opt for a form-fitting sequined gown or a playful fringe dress, don’t shy away from bold accessories that add to the festive vibe. This is the time to shine, so let your outfit reflect the excitement of ringing in the new year while celebrating love!

At Junebug Weddings, we believe your wedding should reflect your unique style and personality. While many people envision winter weddings as a predictable, chilly affair, there’s a whole world of creative possibilities waiting to be explored. From unexpected venues to interactive experiences, we’re here to share fresh, innovative ideas that will make your winter celebration truly one-of-a-kind. Embrace the season in a way that feels distinctively you with these 12 unique winter wedding ideas.

Junebug’s Favorite Unique Winter Wedding Ideas

Have a Nighttime Candlelit Ceremony

Few things rival the romance of a candlelit nighttime wedding ceremony. Imagine an aisle lined with flickering candles, hanging lanterns casting a soft glow, and an altar surrounded by warm, golden light. To make it even more enchanting, provide each guest with a candle to hold, creating a truly magical atmosphere. Not only will the setting feel intimate and unforgettable, but the photos will be epic.

Plan Ahead or Surprise Guests with Winter Activities

Winter weddings open the door to activities that are as memorable as they are seasonal.  Think ice skating, skiing, or snowmobiling. Even if it’s just the two of you, these moments can be woven into your celebration for unforgettable photos and experiences.

Want to bring your guests in on the fun? Consider organizing a day of skiing, setting out on a whale-watching tour, or even providing sleds at your reception. Junebug planner 4 Weddings & Events shares, “Depending on the guests, a horse sleigh ride, torch light walk or an ice curling tournament make a fun experience!”

Serve Warm Beverages as a Welcome Gift

You may have already thought about adding hot drinks to your bar menu, like hot toddies or Irish coffee. Take it a step further by offering guests a warm beverage as they arrive or while they’re being seated for the ceremony. Consider hot cocktails and mocktails or serving hot cocoa in custom mugs that double as wedding favors. It’s a thoughtful way to keep your guests warm and engaged during quieter moments.

Hold Your Reception in a Greenhouse

Trade the traditional banquet hall for the enchanting setting of a warm, lush greenhouse. Guests can enjoy the beauty of winter from indoors in the ultimate cozy space. The vibrant greenery and natural light provide a striking contrast to the snowy outdoors, creating a unique and magical ambiance for your celebration.

Hire Figure Skaters for an On-Ice Performance

We’ve seen a lot of unique winter wedding ideas come to life through the years, but this is one we have yet to witness! There has certainly been rollerskating at weddings, and even synchronized swimmers at a reception–but how about an ice skating performance?

If your venue has access to an outdoor rink or frozen lake, this unique entertainment idea can seamlessly tie into the seasonal charm of your wedding day. Whether it’s set to one of your most meaningful songs or a festive winter melody, the performance is sure to be a memorable one. Another fun and unique idea–have your first dance as a couple on ice!

Bring the Winter Wonderland Indoors with Hanging Installations

Elevate your winter wedding decor by looking up! Instead of just adorning tables and surfaces, consider creating a stunning ceiling installation. We love a hanging floral installation, and a winter-themed display could be just the thing to elevate your winter wedding decor.

Hang cascading garlands of pine, eucalyptus, or fir overhead, interspersed with icy accents like crystal beads or faux icicles. Add twinkle lights to create a magical atmosphere that transforms your ceremony or reception space into a winter wonderland.

Set Up a Winter Spice Bar

Instead of the usual hot cocoa bar, think about offering an interactive winter spice bar. Guests can create their own blends of mulled wine, cider, or wassail. Then they can top it off with spices and garnishes like cinnamon sticks, star anise, and dried citrus. Cheers!

Say I Do in a Library

If you’re seeking a unique indoor venue to escape the weather, consider a library. The scent of old books and classic architectural elements create an inviting but surely unforgettable atmosphere. Plus, the shelves offer plenty of photo opportunities for your couple portraits between the ceremony and reception.

Indoor Snowfall

Live in a place where snow is hard to come by? Create your own winter wonderland by renting machines to produce a “snowfall” effect indoors for your grand entrance, first dance or reception finale. Your guests are sure to enjoy this unexpected touch that brings fun without the chill.

Nighttime Bonfire

Instead of a traditional reception, consider hosting an after-dark celebration around a cozy bonfire. Delight your guests with gourmet s’mores, mulled wine, and other roasted snacks, complemented by blankets for lounging. For entertainment, you could feature an acoustic band, or for a more intimate crowd, consider storytelling sessions that highlight the couple’s love story.

Go All Out with An Ice Sculpture or Luge

Elevate your winter wedding with a stunning ice sculpture or luge that offers a complete range of entertainment options. It can serve as an incredibly elegant piece of art or it can be a playful spot for guests to take shots, making for memorable moments throughout the evening. Either way, incorporating an ice feature is a unique winter wedding idea guests will love.

Exit the Wedding in a Gondola or Sleigh

Forget the traditional getaway car and embrace a wintery send-off that captures the magic of the season. If you’re celebrating at a mountain lodge or resort, wave goodbye to your guests from a cozy gondola, all while enjoying a portrait session with your photographer during the ride. Alternatively, let a charming sleigh whisk you away after a night of dancing, creating an unforgettable exit that perfectly complements your winter wedding.

Now that you’ve got unique winter wedding ideas ready, it’s time to choose your winter wedding color palette, decor, and centerpieces

Ayla and Jake’s Alaskan elopement was simple and meaningful, just like their relationship. After getting engaged, they imagined different places for their wedding but realized the perfect spot was right in front of them—on the bluff where they live in Wasilla, Alaska. With stunning views of the inlet and mountains and a place they often visited for adventures and sunsets, it felt right. They wanted to say their vows somewhere they could see every day, sipping coffee together, and they made it happen in the most beautiful way.

The couple started their day in their cozy home, sharing breakfast and coffee. Their closest family gathered to send them off, and during the ceremony, they exchanged vows by the fire, surrounded by a few of their favorite people as witnesses. The day ended with everyone they loved gathered in their living room, eating cake and popping champagne, as the house filled with love and joy, marking the start of their new life together as husband and wife.

Their intimate elopement came together easily, full of love, and now they can always return to the place where they promised forever. If you dream of saying “I do” in a stunning, secluded spot surrounded by breathtaking scenery, check out these gorgeous photos captured by the talented Junebug vendor Chelsa Jay.

Celebrating Forever Right in Their Snowy Backyard: How Their Alaskan Elopement Came To Be

After we got engaged, we imagined different places for the ceremony—a mountaintop or the spot of our first date. But then we realized the perfect place had been right in front of us all along. Living on a bluff in Wasilla, Alaska, our front porch looks out onto the inlet and a majestic mountain view. A few months before the wedding, Jake started taking snow machine trips to the inlet, where we’d have fires, enjoy sunset views, and spend time together with our little family. We knew this was where we wanted to promise our lives to each other—a place we could visit often and see every morning while sipping coffee in our living room. Our intimate elopement came together effortlessly, filled with joy and love. We’re grateful to reminisce and visit the exact spot where we said our vows whenever we like. The theme of our ceremony, officiated by a dear friend, was “coffee for a lifetime.” We wanted to make the moment last forever, and what better place than our own front yard? That’s right—our small wedding took place just a three-minute snowmobile ride from our porch. Surrounded by close family and friends, we left the rest of the world behind, if only for the night. Our tiny “backyard wedding” came together with a little family, a few friends, and lots of love!

Embracing Their New Family with Vows, Promises, and a Shared Future

During our ceremony, we exchanged vows while cozied up by the fire, surrounded by a few of our favorite people. We spoke from the heart, focusing on creating a strong foundation for our marriage, family, and future children. I surprised Jake by not only sharing my vows with him but also making promises to his daughter, Alma. Jake then placed a ring engraved with Alma’s name on my finger. At that moment, our little family of three became one.

How Their First Dance Song Became a Special Tribute to Their Baby Boy

“Banks” by Needtobreathe was our first dance song and holds an incredibly special meaning for us. Now, we enjoy our morning coffee with our precious 5-month-old baby boy, Banks LJ Wade. Even before we met him, he was a part of our wedding day. There’s something so special about cozying up with your fiancé on a snow machine as you ride out to get married. We were truly living the moments we had both been praying for.

Personalized Moments and Cherished Memories at Their Alaskan elopement

We’re most proud that throughout the process, we stayed focused on each other and our love, making the day even more perfect than we’d dreamed. The smiles, the flower crown, and how all the little moments came together were just incredible. After our elopement at the inlet, we walked up the stairs into our living room to be greeted by our parents, who watched the ceremony through binoculars and welcomed us with deep, thankful hearts. We celebrated together with a toast. Every detail of our wedding was personalized; even the unplanned moments felt like signs that we had truly found our forever in each other.

A Perfect Ending to Their Intimate Alaskan Elopement

We woke up in our cozy home and shared breakfast and coffee before our intimate elopement, which was just a short distance away. One of our closest friends officiated the ceremony and also did Ayla’s makeup and hair in our living room, which overlooks the inlet where we got married. Our closest family gathered to see us off, and our parents were waiting at home for us after we exchanged our vows. When we returned, we celebrated in our living room, enjoying cake and champagne. Our home was filled with love and joy as we began our new life together as husband and wife.
